My Social Action Project
The planting project successfully educated learners on the
importance of gardening, engaging them through interactive questions and
rewards. However, a challenge was managing the large number of learners, as
over 40 students in each of the three Grade 7 classrooms made it difficult to
involve everyone in the planting phase. Service-learning has made me more aware
of the importance of community engagement and the positive impact small actions
can have, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection. Professionally,
service-learning has enhanced my skills in planning, organization, and
communication. I gained practical knowledge about gardening, learned how to organise
school activities, and how to manage learners outside of the classroom. The
school will benefit from the produce grown in the garden, which can support
school meals or be shared with the community. By sharing the project on social
media, we created awareness and encouraged community involvement, supporting
the sustainability of the initiative.
Wow Refentse! What a great way to involve learners and make them aware of the importance and benefits of this project. It is great to hear how you ache grown personally and professionally. Well done!
